Hi there, I’m Josephine—This is My Story
For eight long months, I waited. I didn’t know exactly what I was waiting for—just that I was in a shelter in rural South Carolina and something deep inside didn’t feel right. Turns out, my little heart was carrying a heavy burden—heartworms. Not just a few—bad ones. The kind that made me tired, uncomfortable, and at risk for something far more serious.
The vets weren’t hopeful. They suggested it might be time for me to sleep forever. But the volunteers? Oh, those incredible humans saw a spark in me, something worth fighting for.
They didn’t just give me food, comfort, and love—they gave me hope. They found me a foster mom who became my beacon of hope. She saw past the weight of my diagnosis and helped me rest, heal, and remember that I was worth saving.
Treatment wasn’t easy. Some days felt like an uphill climb for my tired little heart. But I fought hard, and with the love and dedication of so many, I made it!
I’m now heartworm-free, living proof of what love and determination can do. I still need daily medication ($1/day) and regular checkups to stay healthy as I get older, but I’m ready to enjoy life and everything it has to offer. Belly rubs? Yes, please. Couch mornings? The best. Car rides? Happiness in motion.
Where am I now?
Right this moment, I’m at the Greenville Humane Society.
My foster mom’s living situation changed, and she had no choice but to look for help. The kind folks here at GVL Humane stepped up, and wow—I’m so glad they did.
They gave me another chance, and now all I need is a forever family to call my own.
Life After the Tough Times
I’ll admit, that I may never be a fan of mountain hikes or ultra-long walks—that’s just not my vibe. I’m more of a “cuddle on the couch,” “watch the world from the window,” "play with toys", and “bask in the sunshine” kind of girl. Give me belly rubs, lazy mornings, and a cozy spot to rest my paws, and I’ll be your most loyal companion.
I promise to fill your life with love, and I’m a great team player! I get along wonderfully with other dogs and even cats (especially if they look like me!). My heart, though it's been through a lot, is open, resilient, and ready to love its forever family.
